Breakfast good, good coffee made for you, nice croissants.
My room was very noisy on the ground floor with lorries just outside the window. But very clean if small. No table or chair so it was the bed or nothing. Bedclothes changed very day and spotless. Hot water took 10 minutes to reach the shower!

A goldmine of Greek and Roman heritage, Siracusa is a UNESCO World Heritage Site together with the Necropolis of Pantalica in hills to the north-west.
Siracusa itself has a necropolis within the amazing Neapolis archaeological park, which also houses Roman amphitheatre and altar remains, as well as one of the largest Greek theatres ever built. Legend has it that the site includes the tomb of Archimedes, who was born here.
The ancient Greeks founded the city (also known as Syracuse) and Cicero even considered it the greatest of all. Columns from that period were used to build the Baroque cathedral, and the Fountain of Arethusa dates to the same era. Both are within Ortygia, a walled peninsula jutting into the turquoise Mediterranean Sea. Also here are ruins of the Roman temple of Apollo, and at the tip of the peninsula is the 13th-century Maniace Castle.
The fabulous Siracusa Archaeological Museum houses relics from all these periods, and is located by the Catacombs of Saint John. Opposite them both is the modern conical spire of the Madonna delle Lacrime Sanctuary church.
Aside from all this history, Siracusa also has plenty of pavement cafes and restaurants, and lovely sandy beaches overlooked by luxury hotels, cheap B&Bs and holiday homes available on Booking.com.

The streets are charming especially on Ortigia but the sights and museums fall short of other cities, including Palermo and Taormina on Sicily and far short of Florence or Sienna on the mainland. Still, having visited all those other places Syracuse was a pleasant place to spend a couple of days. The main archeological site (overly hyped and ruined by a theatre development) and associated museum are far from Ortigia, which means a long hike or waiting for the tiny red minibus 105 if you can find the stop just over the bridge from Ortigia. Seeing the one Caravaggio in Santa Lucia was another hike across the mainland. On Ortigia, the castle was only OK; the Mikveh looked interesting from outside but we hadn't booked the guided tour. The market was excellent (buy some almond biscuits for 12 euros a kilo!) and close to the impressive Temple of Apollo. We ate well (lots of seafood) but missed out on a really good looking restaurant for lack of a reservation. The coach ride from Catania airport was cheap and functional but the taxi touts at the terminal were sharks, I'm afraid.

Very nice town. We had fun walking around.
Very nice town. We had fun walking around. Beautiful to walk around at night time. Felt safe there. La Fustella was a great leather goods store and everything was made on site. Prices were very good. We also found some paintings on parchment paper at Galleria Bellomo. There is great street food and beautiful sea views.

Lots to see and explore both in the main town eg museums, churches & the archeological park then on Ortigia where history abounds. Plenty of little restaurants to be found up narrow alleyways on Ortigia which are well-lit and have a good atmosphere. Lots of walking required but mostly level with only a few slopes down - & of course back up! - towards the shore but lots of little shops, some touristy but others more interesting like ceramics to distract you. Great views from the shoreline or promenade that runs round the headland so lovey sunsets to view. Felt very safe & people helpful if you need directions. Food-wise - if you like fish, you'll be in heaven plus the usual Italian pasta & pizza plus tasting the Caponnata is a must. Gluten free, vegetarian & vegan folks are catered for to an extent - apps and guidebooks are handy to find places. Without rushing or going to the beach we arrived on Monday and left on Fri and that was plenty of time to see everthing we wanted. Enjoy!

Ortigia Island is a beautiful place, lots of great architecture, very clean. Interesting sites to see and many boat trips available to take you around the island. There are other places of interest in Siracusa and public transport to take you other parts of Sicily. Many places to eat and if you don't mind walking other sites outside of Ortigia Island are within 30/40 minutes walking.

Visiting the archeological park is very nice, I recommend going early in the morning (8.30AM) before big tourist groups start arriving.
Ortigia is also a great place to go: besides sightseeing objects, I particularly recommend via Cavour with lovely small artisan shops.
A Putia near Fontana di Diana seemed to be a small diner appreciated both by locals and tourists. Good food, reasonable prices, ok service.

Ortigia is amazing, so much great food, and lovely to walk around. There isn't more than a day's worth of sight-seeing on the island, plus the Archaeological sites in Siracusa, but it is an excellent home base for day trips around south-east Sicily. And perfect for a relaxing holiday - coffee and a pastry in front of the duomo, a walk around the island and a little shopping (mostly touristy stuff unfortunately), and a gelato looking out over the water on the promenade. Very friendly people, lovely architecture and history around every corner, fantastic restaurants, and even in February, SUN!
Ortigia is my favorite city in Sicily and having stayed there many times already, Casa Aretusa was my favorite!! The apartment is huge and exceeded expectations for our group of 7.
I didn't realize when I booked that the apartment is literally steps from our favorite restaurant, Ristorante La Medusa, which was a treat to have such a short walk to and from dinner. Balcony views look straight into a magical side street.
Check in process was super easy, allowing us to get straight to enjoying ourselves.
Will definitely stay here again!!
Truly one of the best apartments I have ever rented on booking. Pietro and Loredana are so hospitable, kind, and thoughtful. The setting in Ortigia is so unique- an ancient apartment with modern touches, close to the water, and the apartment is somehow incredibly temperate (even though it is so hot outside in the summer). Sitting in the courtyard, I could hear distant church singing every evening.
I am so grateful I got to stay here. I felt more comfortable here than anywhere else in Sicily.
We absolutely loved this place! Probably the best we've had in 10 days of our Sicily tour!! The location is right in the center of Isola Ortigia, in a historical building, yet new, modern, 5-star facility, owned and run by Martina and her colleague Nastassia.
So beautiful, so clean, so fresh, full of light, amazing and rich fresh breakfast..
The parking valet was arranged in advance and worked very well.
Will definitely plan to return to Maeco B&B! Thank you Martina, thank you Nastassia :)
The apartment is lovely. Compact but it has everything you need and the decor is nice, particularly the exposed stone walls. For a couple, it was perfect.
The location is a ten minute walk from Ortigia, and in a quiet area of the city. We hired a car for the week and were always able to find space to park on the street or an adjacent street.
Valentina was an amazing host. Incredibly friendly and helpful, giving us plenty of tips and recommendations for our time in Sicily.
Charming Hotel with an excellent location in the heart of Ortigia. Angelo was very welcoming and helpful not just with the hotel issues but even with information about the place and he even arranged a boat excursion for us. Breakfast was super good with a lot of variety (way more than what to expect from a 3 start hotel in Sicily)! Rooms where very clean and spacious. Would definitely re-stay in this hotel if visiting Siracusa again! Highly recommended!
The location was ideal for our stay in Ortigia. It was a quiet street but a short walk to the water and to the restaurants and sites we wanted to see. The owner met me with keys. He was very friendly and kind. He even carried our luggage up to our room. The apartment was beautifully decorated and clean. Best bed we slept in during our Sicily stay.
My stay in Ortigia was one of the high points for me during the three weeks in recently spent in Sicily, The owner Alberto was very helpful and most accommodating in all ways and his house keeper Anita was wonderfully helpful and really made my stay very pleasant and memorable. I would highly recommend Residenza del Reginale in Ortigia.
Location is great to see Ortigia and enjoy local life in Syracuse. The apartment is equipped with everything you need, a basic kitchen, coffee machine, kettle, washer and clothes hanger out of the window. Spotless! Location is super convenient to the train station and what a fantastic, welcoming host. Thanks, Francesco.
Amazing location right on the sea. Every room in this small B&B has a gorgeous view, you can hear the waves against the rocks all night long. Fantastic breakfasts, sweet rooftop deck and generous and kind hosts. You won’t be disappointed, the best place we stayed in our slow tour of Sicily, we didn’t want to leave.
The people working there, free parking in front of the hotel and breakfast was amazing!!
The room we got was outdated, but it was very big. it was on the ground floor, so no windows except the doors, which is typical in Sicily. Overall, good stay for a quick night, fulling breakfast :)
Best location to discover Ortigia, right next to the piazza duomo. Simona is a great host and took the best care of us during our stay. The historic building is in a great condition and just recently modernized. Clearly a highlight of our Sicily trip. Absolute recommendation!!
The best place we have stayed in Sicily! Very thoughtful amenities, fruit and quality sheets , towels , dishes! I will highly recommend this place. So close to all that you want to see. Easy check in/ out. Bright, clean and perfect! I want to come back and stay for a month!
Fantastic apartment in the heart of Ortigia. Outstanding interior design. One of the highlights on our trip to Sicily. Brilliant host. We rate the apartment, living experience and host 12/10.
The location is fantastic, with incredible ocean views and building views. Balcony was lovely. Walking distance to everything you need. The hotel provided the old-time charm we wanted when staying in Sicily. Breakfast was great, good coffee and lovely food 10/10.
Great location, the room was really comfortable, and the breakfast (with a view on the sea) excellent ! Great hosts, who gave us a lot of advice on things to do in Syracuse and in Sicily in general! Would return there without a doubt for our next time there.
The building is very charming and the facilities including the washing machine were super helpful after a long trip in Sicily. Lea and Luca are also super helpful and wonderful hosts. Will recommend this place to all my friends and family.
Small hotel in great location for exploring Ortigia & Syracuse. The staff were attentive and helpful. Good breakfast on roof terrace overlooking the harbour. We would recommend!
One more time in my favorite island -Sicily and exceptional Ortigia.Everything was O.K. in Casseta Lusilla.Design ,cleanless, comfortable, area of the apt.
